So we’re less than two weeks out from Election Day and @ScottMorrisonMP says hospitals are a state problem whilst @AlboMP will talk with Premiers if elected. No fix for amb. ramping or elective surgery delays from either side. Perhaps they haven’t noticed the avoidable deaths?

I would have thought that a party with a vision for the future would have a post-COVID recovery plan for our health system… Or at least a funded reform agenda to make healthcare more sustainable into the future. Perhaps a mandatory visit for #auspol to the local ED is required?

So while we’re all obsessed with a 0.25% increase in interest rates spare a thought for almost 1 million Australians waiting in pain or disability for elective surgery or any West Aussie who gets sick tonight after being told an ambulance may not come in time when called.

This may sound naïve🙄 Both PM and Opp lead deserve our respect despite their nicknames… ScoMo and Albo lead our major parties and are current and future leaders of our country. They work hard & let’s judge them on their policies and their vision for Australia’s future #auspol

rather than playing silly gotcha games… Let’s hold them to account for their actions and failures but remember that this is not a presidential election. Ideally we could all vote for our favourite local candidate… but we also need to keep an eye on the main game.

And on health I’m still hoping to see some of that vision from both sides before the election so the millions of Australians who value healthcare can make an informed decision at the ballot box. Look out for our health scorecard before polling day. ama.com.au

No solution for the public hospital logjam in the budget. If you agree with me that the federal government must do more to help lift public hospitals out of this crisis, go to hospitallogjam.com.au to see what access is like to your local hospital and send a message to your MP
Our hospitals are in crisis. Find out how you can take action at hospitallogjam.com.au

If all Australians concerned with ambulance ramping and long surgical waiting lists at public hospitals share their views with politicians, just maybe we can force the parties to share their vision for meeting our healthcare needs before the election.

Learnings from the SA election for Labor and the Coalition federally: SA voters have ousted a good government with a solid track record where one of the main differences between the parties was future health policy. Ignore health at your peril. #auspol

We MUST do better. That Australians still die of RHD is bad enough; that young Aboriginal women die despite seeking treatment is a shocking indictment of our hospital culture. #endRHD abc.net.au/4corners/heart-fa…

As Australia learns to live with COVID, a great explainer from the ABC on how to interpret death statistics. Despite significant COVID deaths, many countries are now at or below their usual death rates after devastating spikes early in the pandemic. abc.net.au/news/2022-03-08/a…

👏We have a date! Common sense decisions for WA today from @MarkMcGowanMP. WA will face Omicron regardless of the border and we can be confident that we are as prepared as anywhere in the world. Restrictions to slow spread needed to protect hospitals and essential services.

Sensible decision that ‘up to date’ means a COViD vaccine within 6 months (at least for now). The vast majority of WA is up to date and ready to face COVID. Let’s use the border delay to get our 5-11 yo vacced & every aged care resident boosted. And #setadate @MarkMcGowanMP

Some science to back up calls from the AMA for a sensible approach to managing COVID and the WA border. Benefit from extra boosters offset by waning immunity. We need a strategy for managing omicron based on science, not fear ⁦@MarkMcGowanMPabc.net.au/news/2022-01-28/o…

A well managed summer outbreak while the elderly are recently boosted likely to be better than waiting until winter with waning boosters, influenza and when hospitals in WA already full to the brim without COVID. Remember last year’s record ambulance ramping?

Opening the borders was always going to be very hard for @MarkMcGowanMP but yet again the virus gets ahead of us and it is likely to be a moot point by Feb 5. Clear choice now to try and slow or let it rip. Surprised we haven’t seen more public health measures yet.
