We can’t expect a humanity locked under capitalism to just spontaneously be great at understanding and solving Covid by working collectively through our own trustworthy democratic organs to fight for global equitable solidaristic solutions. What’s failing us is bourgeois rule.
I think I’m way more depressed about how much people suck during a pandemic than I am about the actual pandemic

this is not a “species” thing tho. there is nothing ~inherent~ about this. climate change and the pandemic are crises of capitalism, and capitalism is the reason they’re not being addressed.

at least social ecology actually means something instead of militating against some completely meaningless concept like "civilization".
The chasm between anti-civ anarchists and social ecologists really doesn't need to be as wide as it is. Unfortunate example of horizontal hostility.

Yeah even left liberals around me now are saying “everyone’s gonna get it it’s endemic so like whatever” and I don’t know enough, so it feels very hypothetical to keep saying we should try to eradicate it and keep going with shutdown policies. capitalist realism vibes.
It is wild to live in a culture acting like we are overreacting to Covid when everything within my ability to reason suggests we are dramatically under-reacting.

As an anarchist, I have no problem with mandates and lockdowns per se, the problem is that the state lacks the legitimacy to do it. Workers have a right to dictate collectively the conditions of their labor, and customers dont have the right to violate that when they walk in.

That's it in a nutshell. 21st century life is just "learning to live" with the consequences of the greed of the world's richest people

Something I've noticed about context of language in recent correspondence with Ancoms from the Americas - it seems to them the term Marxist is associated with the concept of electoralist reformism based on the overwhelming practice of their historic Marxist movement.

On the one hand, it's great to see climate scientists openly stating the science-society social contract is broken, and effectively advocating for strike tactics. Challenging BAU is unequivocally good. On the other hand ... (short 🧵) 1/
New paper on climate inaction 'The Tragedy of Climate Change Science' in @ClimDevJournal with Prof Bruce Glavovic & Prof Tim Smith. Probably the most difficult paper we've ever written, in part due to putting into words a growing dissatisfaction that has lasted our entire careers
