Wrong, in fact it only took a couple of weeks to track Rundo down again to Plovdiv, the second-largest city in Bulgaria, finding the exact location, and the exact red mark behind him in the fashion shoot photo.

🧵US far-right extremist Rob Rundo, currently facing up to 10 years in prison in the US, has spent the last two years roaming around Europe, spreading his fascist claptrap to his idiot followers, and avoiding the law. We've tracked him down, time and time again, and now, again.

Not kidding you: this number plate belongs to the chief of FSB's military counterintelligence (In Russian abbreviated as "ВКР"). I am not sure but in his place I'd have asked for a different number?

I'm afraid after this butchered recovery attempt, Russia will start pre-indicting its spies, just in case they are caught. (Note to self: parse all new indictments from Dec 2022)
🧵 In June, The Netherlands announced it had detained a Russian spy, posing as a Brazilian just as he was about to start work for the ICC. Sent back to Brazil, he ended up sentenced to 15 years for using fraudulent documents. Russia now claims he's a drug dealer, not a spy...

The Dutch are evil.
Imagine you’re a happy go lucky GRU infiltrator. Handsome, young, intelligent, fit, living in the west, sponsored by the GRU, meeting lovely female students… full Western decadence. Then you get caught in Holland.Well, who cares, cushy Dutch jail.Ah no,straight to Brazil gang jail

Russia's GRU spy was caught by the Dutch and sentenced to 15 years by the Brazilians. Now Russia fabricated a ridiculously inept criminal case against him to try to have him extradited. Read up here.
When 'Viktor Müller Ferreira' was kicked out of the Netherlands on suspicion of espionage, he ended up in a Brazilian jail. But now, Moscow is now requesting his extradition him on the basis of a partly fabricated criminal case, reports @christogrozev. bellingcat.com/news/2022/11/…

I have many nuggets from this botched-up extradition story, but my favorite must be how the police "investigator" who was told to just insert a Cherkasov into the old criminal file wasn't really told if he was a man or a woman: so he seemed to assume it was a woman:

But the funniest thing overall in this spy story (so far! more coming up..) must be the luggage tag with which Dutch authorities extradited "Victor Muller Ferreira" to Brazil. Check out the destination airport:

Of course, maybe that's how the Dutch AIVD discovered him in the first place: he was arriving from GRU airport in Sao Paolo and they were like "gotta check this guy out"

This is most likely how it happened, of course.
Replying to @christogrozev
Or, considering that the verbs are still conjugated for a masculine noun, that investigator just sloppily copy-pasted it from a place where "Cherkasov" was in the genitive case, thus making it appear the same as a feminine version in the nominative case.

A clarification from our colleagues from DN: the former boss at MUST was not THE chief of the whole agency but a high-ranking department chief at the military intelligence agency.
Replying to @EliotHiggins
The couple also have a family connection to a former head of Swedish intelligence. The man worked as head of the Military Security and Intelligence Service, MUST, for several years. The family connection between the couple and the former MUST boss was established after he retired

When years ago @Dobrokhotov and I discovered that GRU spies had been registered to an address at Sorge street in Moscow (Richard Sorge was a super spy for USSR in WW2), we thought this was some trolling joke. Nope, turned out they all lived there.
Replying to @christogrozev
Well, who else do you expect living on Zorge street...? 🤔😂🤔

Check out this wild story.
This week, a Russian couple living in Sweden for the past 20 years were arrested, with the husband detained under suspicion of working for the Russian intelligence services. @christogrozev did some digging and made some interesting discoveries about their neighbours in Moscow.

Also on the list is @CITeam_en, which reports on Russia's involvement in conflicts, @DanKaszeta, who writes about chemical weapons, @HromadskeUA, a Ukrainian news site, and so on.

The Kremlin/MAGA cult feeding @elonmusk list of people to suspend are targeting @christogrozev as well. Christo like @oryxspioenkop are not antifa, or anything resembling the claims made by the people spreading the list. However they both do report on Kremlin's war. Fascinating.

Some crazy new findings and links to old acquaintances pop up as we've been helping our Nordic colleagues get to the bottom of this; we will update you soon.
Swedish couple who immigrated from Russia more than 20 years ago arrested for espionage. They worked in the "import-export" business which should have been enough of a red flag (apologies to any legitimate "impex international businessmen" that do exist:)
