Quick rock stock take, what's your nearest rock? Mine is a pink Ignimbrite chunk from Long Valley Caldera in California. Formed by a massive pyroclastic flow, you can see pumice bits within it.

Jocelyn Bell Burnell transformed astronomy #OTD in 1967 when she made the first observation of a pulsar. She and advisor Antony Hewish initially dubbed the object LGM-1 (“Little Green Men”) for its regular signal, but soon identified it as a rotating, magnetized neutron star.

Anders lives a bit higher up in Kiruna than me so he can see the sun. Today accompanied by this spectacular sundog, parhelion, part of a halo. :)

What’s the difference between asteroids, comets and meteors? These space rocks each have their own unique attributes. But differences aside these fascinating objects are all worthy of study. Just ask @NASAJPL's Ryan Park and he’ll agree. More space rocks: go.nasa.gov/3i42jBm
