just watched @UNTPolice unlawfully arrest a Black student trying to attend a job fair on campus, claiming he was “trespassing” despite having a student ID number. 1/3 @stevanzetti

2/3 at the beginning of this clip, you can see the closer officer laugh at the man’s repetition that he is not a student, despite him being registered.

even if @UNTPolice's claim that the man caused a "disturbance" is true, *and* if he was indeed not a student (he is) there is no way to spin this that doesn't come down to racial profiling. had it been a white man causing a disturbance the police would not have been called

until he was physically putting someone else in danger. and if someone HAD called the police on a white man, the officers would have approached him calmly, taken his information, CONFIRMED HIS STUDENT STATUS, and calmly encouraged him off the property for his disturbance.

there is no world in which police response to this same call would have led to an arrest if he had been white. this man did not pose a threat to the student body, he did not threaten police, he did not do anything that warranted an arrest

UPDATE: unlike every other listed event in @UNTPolice's 60-Day Crime Log, the item about this arrest omits any information about whether they cleared him, how it was addressed, or that he was arrested at all. notice the empty column on the right. police.unt.edu/sites/default…

:’) good job guys
Using donations sent from around the country, we were able to pay the $2,500 for the UNT student’s release today! It may take several hours for the jail to process the release. We will reply to this tweet once he confirms he is out. Thank you again for your support.
