I love this idea that the police have operational independence (which we can argue about, but it is usually defended as something essential) except when lawyers disagree with them.
I am acting in this potential @GoodLawProject challenge to the Met Police’s apparent failure to investigate the Prime Minister’s participation in illegal gatherings. Led by Danny Friedman QC, instructed by Jamie Potter and Helen Fry at @BindmansLLP goodlawproject.org/news/the-…

Agreed. The noise level rises every time we take an independent step outside the EU’s orbit. Whether it be AUKUS, vaccines, Aussie trade deal or the NI protocol. It’s ALL about Brexit. If Boris doesn’t win the next election they’ll sneak us back in through the back door.

With @BorisJohnson poised to suspend the operation of the N Ireland Protocol - the EU’s great hope for keeping the UK in permanent regulatory subjection - expect a furious last effort by Rejoiners to oust the PM today. This is not about lockdown.

On Crossrail launch day, here's the 2004-era vision for what the tube map was supposed to look like in 2016, before Boris Johnson became mayor and cancelled basically every project other than Crossrail

Or "Politician attempts to interfere with the operational independence of the Metropolitan police for nakedly political reasons" Mine is more accurate
NEW: London Mayor Sadiq Khan has written to acting Met commissioner Sir Stephen House seeking a "detailed explanation" of force's fining decisions in Partygate investigation. Met chief also appears before London Assembly on Thursday.

Tens of thousands of hacked, Chinese secret police official files released to the BBC show the harsh oppression of China’s Uighurs. Xi is as much a monster as Putin.

You can almost sense the hands twitching to get out the armalite and Semtex. Disgusting hatred and a disgrace to Irish nationalism. Block this account.

Today is pansexual visibility day. 👋 I define as pan. To me it means that who I love is more influenced by the person’s personality and vibe rather than their gender. A new(ish) term for an old idea, and it can mean different things to others. Love is love. 🌈 #LGBTQ

By taking firm unilateral action the EU will come round and we can find a mutually agreeable solution. They won’t move without it. All this panicky Irish/EU/US lobbying shows they are worried at Britain’s firm stance. We need to back @trussliz
Brussels ambassador to London, Joao Vale de Almeida, said no “credible alternative” to the protocol had been identified and warned that Ms Truss' proposed unilateral action to override it could “nix” the agreement altogether. express.co.uk/news/politics/…

The EU *wants* the Northern Ireland Protocol to chafe and irritate. It *likes* conducting 20% of checks on 0.2% of goods imports. It is trying to teach Britain a lesson for Brexit. And a certain kind of Brit is cheering it. invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=jhmLYnX_…

Boris Johnson believed & believes his conduct at these events fell within the rules. The police only disagree with his assessment re his birthday. Given the police agree with what he said, it's silly to pretend Boris was "obviously lying".

Okay. I was outraged when partygate began, but I am now bored. So, there’s a photo of them doing what we knew they were doing? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I switched over to the World Service this morning from endless partygate news and what were they running? Concrete evidence of genocide in China.
