because colourful things are SILLY and CHILDISH and dark dreary things you cant see that are all kinda tinged greenish grey are MATURE and GROUNDED I guess

My theory is related: it's because colorful things are GIRLY, the only truly acceptable BOY COLOR is "tactical" black. Girl Cooties, basically.

It’s just money like everything else in Hollywood. Cheaper cinematographers, cheaper lighting, light everything flat for better CG, barely color grade
