With the end of Roe v. Wade, and access to abortion disappearing in half the US, let's talk about the law of unintended consequences: namely, the awful downstream effects of this ruling. 1/n

First, there's maternal mortality. Poland has gone down this road, and the result is doctors who will let a woman die rather than going to jail for performing an abortion. With US states making it punishable by life in prison, many women will die. 2/n nytimes.com/2022/06/12/world…

College bound? Don’t apply to universities in states banning abortion! It will hurt these schools financially. And their admissions standards will go down which will in turn hurt their rankings.

Martha Raddatz to Gov. Kristi Noem: "The 14 states that have the most restrictive abortion laws, including South Dakota, invest the least in policies and programs for women and children. So what do you mean when you say these mothers will never be alone?"

As a teenager I became pregnant after being raped and beat to a pulp by 4 older boys. Not long after I was taken to a sketchy place and forced to have an abortion. I developed an infection, ruined my chance for becoming pregnant again, and I still live with the trauma.

This is why the US is a failed democracy:
Just a reminder: because of non-proportional representation and demographics: in order to break the filibuster and overcome the R+6-7 bias in the Senate, Democrats would need to win 3 straight elections by 19 points to make abortion legal nationally. 1/n

It’s so much worse than just the overturning of #Roe and it’s going to get a lot worse. Read this 25-point thread to appreciate just how fucked we all are by non-proportional representation in our country.

Abortion, which is lifesaving in cases of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, etc, will now be illegal in many states & even criminal in some & women will die as a result of this decision. So don't tell me you're pro-life.

Why D.A. Elections are important: Prosecutors who will use their prosecutorial discretion to refrain from prosecuting women for seeking abortions issued a signed statement this morning. Ask your D.A. & D.A. candidates where they stand. Ask them to sign on. fairandjustprosecution.org/w…

This.
It is impossible to overstate the havoc wrought by the Supreme Court this week. Six persons immune from accountability and who are themselves protected by taxpayer security and health insurance have endangered millions by reversing precedent on gun control and bodily autonomy.

I am feeling sick in the pit of my stomach in the same way I did the morning after the 2016 election. Hope you are too. It's time to gear up and fight the same way we did back then. We know how to do this!

Listen up folks — we are all at risk - no matter where we live - of losing our abortion rights. Read this and re-tweet
Let’s be 100% clear. If Republicans win control of the House, Senate and White House two years from now, they will pass a national abortion ban. And no matter where you live, no matter how pro-choice your state is, women and doctors will be locked up for practicing health care.

Something that's hard to convey to people who don't walk in their shoes: there are a lot of women walking around today who aren't just sad. They're frightened. They're terrified.
