My understanding for the £200 plus million Is it sitting in the Executives bank account? Yes Do we need an Executive to allocate it? Yes Would it be used for cost of living relief? Not necessarily Why? Govt departments facing big cost rises due to energy that have to be met.

In fact, some of the numbers floating around about the steep rise in costs exceed the money waiting to be allocated. So a new Executive will have to hope for underspends to meet it or go looking elsewhere in the budget.

Once again, we need to start looking at revenue raising locally. We keep staying on the merry go round of demanding more from our local Executive and not getting revenue raisers to pay for it. Also needs to be mixed with better allocation/management of spend already there.

Really important to read this in full. "An Executive can spend this money however it chooses, whether that’s reducing deficits, new cost-of-living schemes, a mixture of both – or something else entirely"
DUP’s Sammy Wilson claimed that £400m left unallocated by Stormont is going to cover ongoing spending by depts. This isn’t the case. NI currently has around £270m in unallocated public money which can’t be used to cover shortfalls Read more👇🏼 factcheckni.org/articles/wil…

Interesting from a Northern perspective how the narrative that NI still does public services overall better and the economic performance isn't that different still pervades the debate. Huge part of it is, we don't sell Ireland as it is enough and too many UK norms accepted.
Here's the charts from todays @IrishTimes, hat tip to @jburnmurdoch of @FT . The numbers reveal some fascinating evidence about inequality, huge chasm between Ire & UK. The UK's budget last week will only make it more unequal. The Irish budget will do the opposite next week.

These are the government jets that the PM's of Australia, UK, Canada and New Zealand use to get around. The Irish President queues for an ATM and the Taoiseach flies on the national airline. "But why can we not be more like..."

The old NI is over. Current trends show we could end up with more people declaring an Irish only identity than a British only identity. The future belongs to those who can meet the challenge of change.

Yet it's still one of the longest tax codes in the world. North of 17,000 pages long. Takes more effort to figure out how much you owe than it does to earn the income.
