Brexit has lead to 4285 fewer European doctors choosing to joining the NHS - at a time when we're short of over 10,000 NHS doctors. And a staggering 58,000 fewer European nurses have joined. What a spectacular act of national self-harm 😔 theguardian.com/society/2022…

This effect was very evident in the Hospital I was working at in Northern Ireland in 2016. EU nurses just stopped coming. There are now 2500 nursing vacancies across NI.

The self-harm is this Government abolishing nurses #bursaries and refusing to train sufficient aspiring British doctors in medical schools.

Or to rephrase, Brexit has reduced the number of nurses we asset strip from poorer EU members by 58,000. An advanced nation of 70 million people should train its own nurses.

There are over 10 million foreign born people in the UK now. Should we keep believing that more immigration is the fix? It seems to have dramatically failed to deliver on worker shortages.

Why aren’t we training doctors in the UK?

So our wonderful NHS, not copied by any other country in the world, is robbing Europe and developing countries of their medics to prop up our failures. Amazing!

Funnily enough, the numbers don’t match the good doctor’s narrative. Sigh..
