Had to listen to a few coworkers this morning complain about how the government is handing $500K houses to any homeless people who sign up for it, and I honestly don't know how to even compete with a disinformation apparatus that so easily churns out that kind of credulous rube

Like we are so clearly inhabiting two completely different planes of existence, that somehow briefly intersect each other between 8a-6p, 5 days a week. There is no shared basis here to begin a conversation.

Like, we've gotta walk past a few homeless men and women most days we go to work, because they often hang out outside the post office. Surely they wouldn't be there if the government was offering them a big house

and yet, there is this:
Doctors should be able to write prescriptions for housing the same way they do for insulin or antibiotics.

Utterly fascinated by the type of brain that thinks that tweet has dick-all to do with my tweet.

I had an older carrier tell me how it’s different now because we have to constantly worry about getting shot.

If he's like the guys in my office, he's probably, ironically, the guy you're most concerned about getting shot by.

It's what they're fed. Most municipalities release the info on what their doing to combat homelessness, w/ their public-private non-profit in the wings; & usually it's about 50k/per homeless person. LA spent 10k/tent spot/month at the start of COVID to internment-esque unhoused

It's a funny lie, too, because a couple of these guys live down the road in Morro Bay, where 500k on a house doesn't even get you much to begin with. And that's double true down in LA. dream bigger with your lies, fellas!

Ask them “Why don’t you put your shit in storage, move out, and sign up?” They know it’s not real it just makes them feel good.

I don't think these guys think it's a lie. I think they half-heard some shit that neatly solidifies their worldview, convinced themselves very quickly it was true, and filed it away for later to be repeated as true.
