I was just walking down 125th Street in Harlem when a Black trans woman approached me. “Can you please say something about Dave Chappelle?” she asked me. “I walk down the street and people make fun of me. He needs to know his words hurt Black people like me,” she said.

Moments later, as I was writing that last text walking to the gym, a straight Black woman called out to me. “How am I supposed to find a man if all y’all brothers turn gay?” she said. “I didn’t turn gay,” I said. “I am gay.” “You weren’t born that way,” she said. My people! 🤦🏾‍♂️
