i made an algorithm look at 1,000 memes on Twitter and then produce its own, and this is what i got. i am shaking and crying. 2022 is just beginning, i can't do this. this can't be how 2022 begins.

Plenty of people here saying this is a great idea, and I know a few irl. The credentialist PMC faith in centrist politics is a disease.
Aged care providers and unions are calling for the army to be deployed to assist in aged care facilities as the situation is dire.

Social workers can be inserted to do the work of psychologists, nurses, OTs, and childcare workers. Soldiers can be inserted to the work of supermarket staff and aged care workers. Cmon need two more for a galaxy brain meme

The issue is no leader on the planet appears to be handling covid well. To some people he'll seem to be doing the best with a bad situation - and god knows Labor isn't presenting themselves as a more competent alternative.
Is there a single human being who has watched a recent Scott Morrison press conference and thought "phew, that was a coherent plan, well articulated by a confident leader at ease with the responsibilities of his position"? #auspol

Yeah, it's probably not a coincidence that centrist interest in Nordic economics only exploded once the Nordic countries started showing massive wealth inequality.
This is triggering: "<Nordics> didn’t **build** their welfare states on <progressive taxes>" They did. The Swedish 60's welfare state was built on direct taxation, not GST. They switched to regressive taxes (GST) and, since 1980, become more unequal. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Nut graf: because the tax system is fully gamed by the wealthy, a GST on everyone is the only way to ensure they pay anything at all. We'll just ignore the assumption that a poor family buying groceries faces the same constraints as a multimillionaire buying a Ferrari.
Equity is poor people paying a higher proportion of their income in tax. Boring technocrat once again being Very Intelligent. These people get paid to write this shit.

The rich person is taxed on their car and receives a convertible. The worker loses the entire function of his bike. Was the cartoonist being subversive here?

Latest data: 47 Aus billionaires have doubled their wealth to $255 billion. But Labor just joined the Libs in committing to no new taxes AND backing the $180 billion worth of tax cuts for the rich. Shows which side they're on. Greens will keep fighting to tax billionaires

At Tullamarine you enter the airport, check in, weigh bags, do security checks where they make you half undress, scan your bags and dig through your stuff, then right at the last point, standing in the passport gate with fifty people in line behind you, they show you this:
I will not allow border force to go through my phone -- feels kinda fucked up that I'd feel the need to wipe my phone coming back into my own country, so I dont expose not only my private life but that of my friends too. theguardian.com/world/2022/j…

Dig deep enough on the internet and you can find people who believe John Howard was a hardcore communist who played a 40 year long game to become a four-term conservative pm entirely so he could implement mild gun control laws to disarm the population.

You know perfectly well that was never the debate, but it revealed socdem econ discussion is full of people trying to smuggle social conservative ideals into progressive welfare thinking. By 2022 you can't say "queers, single mothers, the childless". That hurts you, backfires.

People think the BBC is left wing because they have some black & Asian presenters. People think the BBC has a right wing bias because it’s directors and political editors are literal members of the Conservative party. Centrists think these are both the same opinion.

Draining to be progressive on issues where the majority left holds trad conservative views, because internet leftists want to believe everything they support is progressive by default. Their cognitive dissonance becomes a distorting force field around welfare issues.
Replying to @SamuelvPraneeth
+ this "taking money from those who don't have kids & giving it to those who do" rhetoric is just paternal conservatism which props up traditional family units at the expense of queer & other marginalised forms of family & is harmful, esp. since spending doesn't come from taxes.
