BREAKING: Shell pulls out of #Cambo - this is huge!! And surely the death knell for this massively misguided project. Congrats to all for building the public & political pressure to #stopCambo ✊✊✊ Let’s keep going for 39 other projects in the pipeline! theguardian.com/environment/…

Join us tomorrow to discover whether I've finished writing my talk...
Join Julian Hughes to hear how illegal persecution of raptors in Wales has not gone away and how indiscriminate poisoning has increased. Julian will also discuss the role we can all play in supporting wildlife law enforcement in Wales. Book here: events.cieem.net/Events/Even…

2/2 Meanwhile nobody knows how many of these traps are being used in Scotland’s countryside (permitted by general licences), where they are or what they are catching. Unmonitored and unaccountable. This has to change @nature_scot @WildJustice_org @MairiMcAllan @lornaslater

An experienced gamekeeper’s flagrant disregard of both the law & the welfare of protected wildlife allows 2 birds to suffer lingering deaths by starvation in an illegally-operated trap. He is “rewarded”with a £300 fine. 1/2

Greatly saddened to read this. Mike was a fount of knowledge and good sense, with a mischievous sense of humour and a big heart. He was one of my 'go-to' people in the @RSPBNews office, who encouraged me hugely. RIP.
Very sad to report the news that former @Natures_Voice and @britishbirds stalwart Mike Everett died peacefully this morning surrounded by his family. @CambsBirdClub @BirdwatchExtra @BirdWatchingMag @RareBirdAlertUK @BirdGuides

We are calling for greater action to protect #peatlands in #NationalParks; more conservation and restoration work, along with a ban on burning as a land management technique, a ban on peat use in horticulture and a ban on disposable BBQs. Find out more > cnp.org.uk/news/campaign-nat…

@MarkAvery thanks for all your work on this. I've no doubt Gov & Defra will continue to dodge, weave & find more 'research' projects - rather than actually address organised crime - rather a sorry state of affairs (PS good to know you are followed by so many legal experts🤔)

Usual shameful stuff from @NFUtweets- seem uninterested in putting the planet first. Hopefully consumers will force the change needed by dramatically reducing meat (& dairy) intake- a major shift to plant based protein will bring huge climate & ecological benefits #climatecrisis
The country's #NFU reps told me at #COP26 that UK farmers did *not* need to reduce livestock numbers & people do *not* need to reduce meat consumption. At the same time they spoke really positively about getting more wildlife on UK farms. A thread (1/4) theguardian.com/environment/…

This rather speaks for itself - Saudi Arabia say yes ok to use lots of oil providing we 'congregate around mitigating' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #ClimateCrisis
Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman says accusations his country is blocking a deal at the COP26 climate summit are “a lie”. Saudi Arabia, one of the largest oil producers and exporters in the world, has been accused by Greenpeace of obstructing talks.

Yep - happy to share this!
Today @BorisJohnson will speak again at #COP26. Here’s why you can’t trust a word he says.

More background on the difficulties in trying to get those poisoning raptors & other wildlife into court and more significantly how does society tackle those who are really at the root of this problem? @ruralcrimesc @NaturalEngland @ukwildlifecrime @RaptorPersScot @MarkAvery
BLOG: Stopping illegal poisoning – just what will it take? RSPB Investigations’ Guy Shorrock reflects on today's conviction which highlights the problems of trying to establish who was actually responsible for the poisoning of a bird of prey. community.rspb.org.uk/ourwor…

Great work Suffolk Police @RuralPolicingSC CPS, @NaturalEngland & @rspbbirders- another gamekeeper convicted of pesticide (& firearm) offences. Whilst ID of person who poisoned the buzzard that started this case is unknown these cases vital to keep these crimes in public view
Following a report of a poisoned buzzard, a part-time Suffolk gamekeeper has today been given a Community Order (80hrs unpaid work) & ordered to pay £200. He previously pleaded guilty to 4 firearms offences plus 2 for unsafe storage of pesticides (bendiocarb & metaldehyde) Watch:

Sorry @pow_rebecca utterly unconvincing - the term 'progressively reduce' sewage outfall is almost meaningless - clear targets and appropriate enforcement are urgently needed - environment & people before company profits please!
We are absolutely committed to cutting harmful sewage entering our precious water courses. I’m meeting water companies tomorrow to make this crystal clear @DefraGovUK #EnvironmentBill @ZacGoldsmith
