My fiancé and I are childless, but I intentionally call us two a “family” to interrogate the myth that “starting a family” requires children.

I hate the concept of family meaning kids. My spouse and I and our cats have been together 12 years as a family, and the last two, my other partner has become family as well.

Yes, yes, yes! My husband and I are childfree and have two dogs and I have done that since we got engaged.

I really like your "childfree" term. (Not sure I've heard it before) Much better than "childless". I'm a new mum now, after successful IVF, and childless always sounded a bit painful to me and a bit stingy when ppl use for...well, for anyone without kids, regardless of reasons.

There are lots of ways to make/be a family and many reasons families may be childless. Even well-intentioned questions about children undermine how and who we consider being a "whole family." Questions can also hurt if dealing with infertility.

Looks like I am the only person in the whole wide world that actually felt a sense of gratitude when my uncle asked.

Do people really shame like this? That makes me so sad... I just had my first child and if a single person wants to call themselves and their pets “a family” I feel that is highly accurate and am totally cool with this! Family is what makes your heart warm!

We bought a new tractor. They offered to install a “buddy seat” in it. Dad said he’d by one when he had a little buddy to ride with him, while looking at me. Hell, we’re trying. My dog would love to ride.
