Important advice for gamedevs who are considering Early Access! I didn't think of it before releasing Empire of Ember and I still regret it, so I hope this is useful for you🤞😊 Small thread about Early Access and testing⬇️ #indiedev #gamedev #indiedevhour #indiegame #Unity

First of all, this is just advice based on my own experience. I might be wrong or there might be better solutions that the ones I'll suggest, but I hope that at least this makes you consider this issue and take all the possibilities into account 😄

I believe that my biggest mistake for Empire of Ember was that I did not hire a professional testing company prior to entering Early Access 🤦‍♂️ Of course, it's not that I wanted to use the program as free testing, I simply wanted some general feedback and to draw some attention🥲

I thought that people just wouldn't care about certain bugs the game had, as that's what Early Access is about, and I had made sure that the bugs didn't prevent you from playing smoothly 💪 And I think I was right about all that, the problem was another one entirely...

What I didn't take into account was that not everyone was going to get the same bugs. While Empire of Ember worked fine on my computer, the game crashed in some computers with lower end systems, and some people reported bugs I had never gotten 🤯

This could have been avoided if I had tested properly and professionally before entering Early Access. I don't know if there are alternative solutions, but that's what I would've done now that I know 🥲

The consequences of this still last. While the issues are largely no longer relevant and all the critical bugs are fixed already, the thumbs down remain 😔 When you enter the Steam page now, there's negative reviews that come from this and make the game look bad

If there's bad reviews, even if the issues are fixed already, people don't trust the game and don't give it a chance, and therefore it's more difficult to get feedback about the new updates and improvements I make every week 😕

So if you're considering releasing your game in Early Access, PLEASE make sure that it works in different computers before!!!!! You don't want to start off with negative reviews that are not about the game itself, but about crashes and unreported bugs 🥲 Also, good luck!! 💪🤩
