Yes: to be clear, more waves will come. Europe has not attained COVID-zero. But if Portugal, at 85% vaccinated, experiences a per-capita death toll anywhere close to what our summer wave has been, then something has gone horribly wrong.
I agree it's a bit of a disaster, but remember *last* summer when the South was blowing up and the North and Europe were not. Now remember last winter?

I’m with you but there’s probably more than that than just vaccination rate and we don’t fully understand what that is. US has both a higher vaccination rate and more deaths than a bunch of Central and Eastern European countries.
