Little random musings on returning back to ICU bedsideโ€ฆ No. 1 - ICU is incredibly noisy! Always have beenโ€ฆ but add extra staff, extra patients, very unwell patients and constant alarms. Itโ€™s much, much worse right now. Occupational deafness!

No. 2 - attaching a fecal containment device (that doesnโ€™t leak) is a true art form. I donโ€™t need to explain that furtherโ€ฆ

Apologies - donโ€™t know who deserves the credit for this cartoon. As covid cases rise in the UK please remember that healthcare is a finite resource. Rising hospital & ICU admissions for covid adversely affect anyone needing those beds

Trust meโ€ฆ you donโ€™t lose the skills or knowledge. It all comes back to you and there is support. Weโ€™d love to have you back, for even a few weeks๐Ÿ™‚
Attention all critical care nurses - we need you! Have you considered returning to work to support ICU colleagues? There are programs to support you rejoining & playing a crucial role in the current pandemic response. If you are interested contact your local or former unit.

Delighted to see this patient side of the hood story. And might I say, this ICU nurse was ever so grateful to have them whilst I cared for some exceptionally unwell patients this week! These little hoods keep on giving.
A Point Cook man who feared he'd lose his disabled brother to #COVID19, has paid tribute to Western Health for its life saving work. Sunshine Hospital is the first to establish a special #COVID19 ward for infected patients who need dialysis to stay alive. @emilyrice28 #9News

Well thatโ€™s it. ICU research shut down as we all get re-deployed back to ICU bedside. Iโ€™ve left the relief nurse bank in chargeโ€ฆ

You know, I thought I would be angry, or at least annoyed with the unvaxxed in ICU. But Iโ€™m not. Because as I walk around, seeing patient after patient on their bellies, fielding calls from worried family, analyzing ever worsening bloodwork, reading patients historiesโ€ฆ

Prof Brett Sutton is Victoriaโ€™s CHO. I have so much respect for a clinician who fronts up to press conferences each day, answering Qโ€™s about opening up childrenโ€™s playgrounds for our privileged population, when you read his account of conditions in Afghanistan in 2003.

I share an office with these amazing #ICUliaisonnurses @western_health and can attest to the incredible work they did last year. Please do not make them repeat it again. Stay home. Get vaccinated.
