Far-right candidate/next 🇮🇹 PM, Meloni, signed a political agreement w Orbán, but wants to convince the world she is fit to lead a G7 🇪🇺 state. Recently she’s amplified their shared despotic values: NO migration/NO Muslim invasion/NO LGBTQ & NO globalists.

Claiming that other people’s politics are identity-based—and one’s own views derive from pure reason—is the purest form of identity politics.

I’ve covered extremism and violent ideologies around the world over my career. Have never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than today’s Republicans. Nothing close.

Thrilled to have Jason Stanley in The Forum. Frightened about his observation that even in the midst of a racist revival of American- style fascism, the Biden historians didn't include those who have been sounding the alarm about precisely this. forummag.com/2022/08/15/whit…

I am appreciating the many emails I am getting accusing me of being a Nazi sympathizer, as well as the emails and twitter threads helpfully trying to explain to me why Nazism and genocide are bad. I am sorry I am unable to reply to them or participate in conversation.

The family tree of my mother, Sara Czesner. My great-grandmother Necha Epelbaum was murdered in Sobobir. She had 8 children. My grandfather Lejb Czesner (pictured), my grandmother Alta, and their two daughters are the only survivors we know of (Perla was an adopted war orphan).

They were never really OUT of the normal social fabric. In fact, they were high society. I have complete faith that the children and grandchildren of Nazies are doing much better financially and socially than the children and grandchildren of those who hid Jews in the basement.
