The crypto bros are trying to retcon web history with Web 1.0 = read, Web 2.0 = write, Web 3.0 = whatever.
Slashdot was 1.0. So were phpBB, Wikipedia, and Blogger.
Web 2.0 was a UX and fashion change ushered by Digg, Gmail, XHR, and jQuery.
Since I'm old enough to remember the so-called Web 2.0 phenomenon, I think we need to remember what it was really based on. I see three things:
1. AJAX requests
2. JQuery and dynamic DOM rendering
3. Low-barrier to entry server-side scripting via (PHP, Perl, etc)
