100% agree. If the person’s gender isn’t important to the conversation, no need to bring it up. Same thing with race and ethnicity. A person is good enough, no need to give descriptors unless it’s important to the point.
I wish we could transition to using they/them for everyone in workplace environments.
It's makes more sense to refer to everyone in a neutral way if not 100% sure on pronouns.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no reason he/she should have an issue being referred to as they.
If you have one female in a workplace of 20 employees, talking "anonymously" about them to other employees using she/ her singles that individual out, so using they/them for everyone would be so much better!
Something that often gets overlooked in the #a11y conversation is that performance is accessibility too.
Making sure users in countries w poor internet connections/no laptop can access the site on mobile w/o downloading MBs of images. I've seen sites where 1 image is 15mbs... 😱
Won't cover all in a tweet, but certainly colour contrast, content (readability), typography, navigation (kb+m, touch), information architecture, assistive tech. Also technical things like semantic markup, web performance, progressive enhancement for resilience. Lots to consider!
Not going to lie, £29.95 for a 5 day course of Penicillin after filling out a symptom form and getting a reply within 30 mins isn't bad money.
@TheOnlineClinic has a nifty software system going, it complements the NHS and takes pressure off them and doesn't try to replace it.
I never thought I'd go private for healthcare but due to covid, nhs healthcare has become inaccessible for me and private healthcare has become more accessible and affordable.
£25 for an online consultation, plus you have to pay more for prescriptions- but they arrive next day.
I don't see this as a betrayal to my political beliefs, because by going private when I can afford it I'm taking pressure off the nhs, so those who cannot afford it can get seen to faster.
I hope one day to see a fully funded and staffed nhs, but that day is not today.
