Thank you everyone for enjoying my Sex in Star Trek video! It’s getting so much positive feedback, and I really appreciate it! If you haven’t checked it out yet, I’m so proud of it and I think it discusses an issue in fandoms that really gets discussed! invidious.fdn.fr/vxqQwAVEbM8

So maddening to have watched white nationalism spread from Stormfront to 4chan to YouTube to Steve Bannon to Tucker Carlson to the manifestos of multiple mass murderers—and not taken seriously because “they’re not wearing white robes.” But a better camouflaged KKK is all it is

Discovery: New Eden is a fantastic episode of Trek. I have too many bullet points about why for it to work in Twitter, but a really relevant one for SNW S1E2: - Pike's father taught both science & comparative religion. Good background for meeting cool aliens like the Shepards.

It’s fascinating how the message of first episode of #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds: how hate and violence will cause only destruction and how we need to reach for peace — is literally played out in season 4 of #StarTrekDiscovery — yet only one show is hailed as “real Trek” 🤔

Sorry to be crude, but I'm finishing up my Sex in Star Trek Part 2 edit and came across this image... What the hell is going on with the Duras Sister's boob window here. Looks freaking uncomfortable.

#StarTrekProdigy deserves just as much praise for its storytelling and character work in under 25 mins as the kind of praise and love that #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds gets It’s honestly underrated and unfortunately relegated by some as less than because it’s animation and for kids

But Trek has always played fast and lose with it. My issue is people who place it at the feet of modern Trek writers as if they “suck” on simply that basis, as if Roddenberry himself wasn’t doing the same thing since the 60s with Trek.

I was going to (reluctantly) review Star Trek: Picard's second season at some point, but @jessiegender does a perfect summation; done from a place of fan-love, not hate. Well worth a watch. Star Trek Picard Season 2: What the Hell Happened? invidious.fdn.fr/bFNeczZng8Y via @YouTube

If it wasn’t for writers breaking established canon we wouldn’t have any of the good Borg, Ferengi and Trill episodes.

Quick there’s about canon.

But narrative consistency is what those shows have within themselves. I require stories to be consistent within their own logic, but I don’t necessarily require them to be consistent with every detail of a 60 year old franchise if it gets in the way of the best possible story.

Conservatives use “define woman” l as a gotcha, arguing we should have a single definition of womanhood. Yet they never realize that their definition that they provide isn’t all encompassing either. It’s ignorant at best & deliberately excluded people to dehumanize them at worst.

I’m going to summarize what I presented on The XX Factor about the anti-Semitic and violent rhetoric of someone whose ideas now pervade the gender critical movement. If you’re concerned about the movement, especially in the US, please read this. It’s probably worse than you think

The only people who need to care about canon in stories are writers, and even then, they only need to care in so far as to decide how much they wish to adhere to it or not to tell their story. You're allowed to not like/see it as consistent with what you saw before or not.

The thing they don't realize is... it doesn't matter. If they don't see it as canon... thats fine! It's fiction. It's not like all the details need to align like some sort of historical text. As long as the story being told is emotional consistent within itself.

There is a long history of TERFism linked with antisemitism. Not only do white nationalist groups like the Proud Boys actively violently support TERFs, we also see common “Soros funds it” antisemetic conspiracy theories in TERFs spaces. There much more; it’s not a coindlcidence.
So @RachelRileyRR claims that the “attacks” on @jk_rowling’s trans related rants are due to her stance on antisemitism. As a trans ally Jew myself who is constantly attacked by antisemitic trolls I can say that this is complete nonsense🙃🙃🙃
