Review by one of the survivors.
It doesn't often happen that you can write a review of the book where you are one of the characters. I had that pleasure with @jfarebrrother1 "The damned Balkans". A very personal story - both John's book, and this review. bit.ly/2LmS8s4

Journalists who report human rights abuses and injustice - whatever the personal consequences - should be celebrated and supported. We cannot allow Julian Assange to be confined to prison for the rest of his life for exposing the crimes of the War on Terror.

Staff, patients and visitors get free parking at NHS hospitals in Scotland and Wales. In England, the Tories are scrapping free parking for NHS staff tomorrow. Anyone else think we should follow the lead of Scotland and Wales and scrap hospital parking charges in England too?

Baby Ronnie lived for only 15 months after a catastrophic birth at a Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust maternity unit. His parents tell @vsmacdonald of their experience, as a landmark review into the Trust found failures led to the deaths of mothers and babies.

In 1949, 140 000 council homes were built. In 1999 it was 50. Private tenants are currently handing over 40% of their income to their landlords. It breaks my heart. We've gone from 2nd most equal European country in 1979 to *the most unequal* today. Breaks my heart

I just read that Kate had a wardrobe worth £35,000 on her Caribbean tour. There are many people in the UK who won't be able to pay their energy bills and who have to rely on foodbanks. Why do people tolerate the monarchy? It's such a stark symbol of inequality.

The Ukrainian city of Odesa is now under siege - and residents are once again preparing to shelter in the catacombs as they did in the Second World War. As @alextomo reports, there are fears Russian forces are becoming more “inhuman and pitiless”.

£2 off a tank of petrol. Gas and electric bills for a typical household to increase by an average of £693 per year. And let’s not even start on rocketing food prices.
It's 6pm - the biggest cut to all fuel duty rates ever has just come into effect. #SpringStatement2022
