Was on a call with some good folks from YouTube, they look into analytics and we were bouncing ideas and notes, here are a few things I did pick, sharing - use if you like

Hack for growth using shorts: 1) 1 short/day - consistent - stick to the day & time of posting (check analytics for your best time to post) 2) Inventory has to be increased for hyper-growth

3) Make a lot of original content, bring freshness 4) Also can use old reels, TikTok (shorts, show more of BTS - from the long-form content) 5) Playlist management is a must

My friend @ShauryaYash23 speak almost everyday and share learnings with each other. There had been a few hypothesis about @YouTubeCreators Shorts but we both believe and trust DATA, and thus we ran a few experiments - here are a few learning - feel free to use it :)

Quick learnings from YT shorts Continued 👇 15. The time it took on a channel to move from browse features to the short feed, on a month on month basis dropped the reach of long form content by 70% to unsubscribed audiences - this number may vary channel to channel

16. While the channel was getting the views that shorts are supposed to give, that didn’t translate into subscribers because by design, they’re low on STV - long form content, that is a potential and sole STV contributor had its reach held back.

17. They’re very driven by likes, on the channel, doubled down on shorts that narrate a happening in his life - which may or may not be personal finance - oftentimes, it is NOT personal finance and we got the likes and we surged our view count that way.

18. Shaurya paused long form content to see if the algorithm treats shorts differently - and it did. 19. Alongside pushing the shorts more from the current week on the back of likes, it pushed older shorts too that originally performed well.

20. The old shorts that were pushed by the algorithm did NOT see a linear relationship with the subscribers they brought in - example.

21. Earlier if it was 100 views and 10 subscribers in x time, it wasn’t 200 views and 20 subscribers in x time - hypothetically assuming a 100% top funnel growth, the subscribers were more than 20 - highlighting a more relevant audiences that the shorts was pushed to.

22. so while there was an absolute top funnel growth, there was a significant improvement in the bottom funnel or STV/conversions too.

33
23. In conclusion - the algorithm favors you best when you’re not barging it - long form alone will do nice, short form alone will do nice - on the back of it.

24. So the best thing to do is start a new channel for shorts and not mix short and long form content. Separate it. Hypothesis is not backed with DATA and trends. Manish - 1 Shaurya - 1 Haha, yes we both win, always 💪

Of course if you include externalities like how the drugs in medicines performed for us, low STV wasn’t a concern on the channel but it is to keep in mind the ability to make it repeatable on our end to hold that ship for us if we do it on the same channel. More to come.

Super amazing breakdown and explanation by @ShauryaYash23. Our discussion on this had begun last year around June - then experiments were done and here are the results. Whoever wants to pick, also a big shout-out to @warikoo what a human 💪💚 You know if you know ❤️
At @warikoo's YouTube, we saw the 3rd BEST month for views we've clocked in the last 13 months AND the 3rd WORST month for subscribers added we've seen. A thread 🧵
