It is deeply depressing how Trumpian the Conservative Party has become.

Zero consultation and a dissembling explanation. Nothing short of a disgrace from @AvantiWestCoast. We will be writing to @grantshapps later today with a clear message: set them a deadline to fix the problems or strip the franchise.
From 14 Aug until further notice, we'll be introducing a reduced timetable. This is due to the current industrial relations climate, resulting in severe staff shortages through increased sickness, as well as unofficial strike action by ASLEF members. bit.ly/3Kt25XX

This is a disgrace - major cities are being cut-off. And the private operator is busy blaming trade unions for their own incompetence. This is pure mismanagement. If they cannot fulfil their contract, they have absolutely no place holding it. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-62…

This is the disgraceful result of 12 years of Tory government that has failed to prepare and refused to invest: scrapping all home insulation programmes, blocking the cheapest power (onshore wind & solar) and closing our gas storage. Bills are higher & our country is less secure.
BREAKING: The UK is planning for several days over the winter when cold weather may combine with gas shortages, leading to organized blackouts for industry and even households trib.al/RhGg9sQ

Without consultation and under the banner of blaming workers- Avanti took a unilateral decision to cut off Manchester indefinitely. Today alongside @AndyBurnhamGM & @SadiqKhan we wrote to @grantshapps for an urgent meeting demanding a reinstatement or to withdraw the franchise.

In a country with plenty of rain outside of mid-summer, we should not need to rely on hosepipe bans to get us through the dry months. The Government must get a grip of the situation & work with water companies now to avoid further disruption and chaos for families this summer.
BREAKING: Thames Water says it plans to announce a temporary hosepipe ban 'in the coming weeks' due to long term forecast of dry weather. Latest: trib.al/GhK45A8 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

Liz Truss' fantasy economics and unfunded commitments lack credibility and won't provide the help families and pensioners need. By scrapping tax breaks on the oil and gas producers making huge profits, we can get people help right now. theguardian.com/politics/202…

As the Tory leadership candidates continue in their fantasy world, this is the catastrophic reality families face this winter. Government needs to provide more immediate support, and a plan to insulate homes and roll out renewables to cut bills for good. news.sky.com/story/energy-bi…

The Tories could have been investing in home insulation to keep energy bills down, as Labour has been calling for. Instead they've wasted yet more public money gambling on zombie businesses and dormant companies. ft.com/content/230fa1ce-9396…

This is deeply irresponsible. Families are seeing bills pile up and the Tory response, after 12 years of economic mismanagement, is to create more uncertainty. Labour would cut energy bills right now by removing the tax breaks for oil and gas producers. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Apart from anything else, the contempt with which he says ‘deprived urban areas’ is just horrible.
EXC: @RishiSunak told Tories in Tunbridge Wells that as Chancellor he tried to reverse Treasury formulas "that shoved all the funding into deprived urban areas" so areas like theirs could benefit @NewStatesman story: newstatesman.com/politics/co…
