The Anti-Empire Project is sharing tonight a resource on Anti-Palestinian Racism. The goals are a) to recognize this as a distinct type of racism and b) to make it easy to identify when an argument or claim is based in such racism and not good faith. podur.org/2021/05/23/anti-pa…

It's quite an image isn't it? The European explorer with hundreds of African porters in chains carrying 60lb loads, massacring whole villages over imagined slights or to steal their food - all to abolish slavery.

I can't believe the way writers even today write about the Scramble for Africa as if it was an abolition of slavery project, as if the European colonizers' pretext was their real reason for their murderous occupation of the continent.

In the Scramble for Africa lore, Livingstone is presented as the "sincere" abolitionist, the imperialist who really did have a golden heart and a desire to end the slave trade in Africa. This is hard to take seriously.

Livingstone's most famous lecture tour in Britain was December 1856-1857, including the most famous lecture in December 1857, when he, according to one author, "inspired young men to the missionary vocation in Africa."

Meanwhile his country was slaughtering millions in India during the 1857 rebellion ("mutiny") which would have been all over the news at the time, as well as the Second Opium War in China.

Livingstone was that great humanitarian who takes on the easy causes while leaving the difficult dissent to those who would be demonized. While Marx was debunking fake tales of atrocities by Indians, Livingstone was drumming up support for colonizing Africa.

Thank you to Kevin and other independent journalists for doing what the Western corporate media has shunned: covering the most important press freedom case in the world.
Replying to @kgosztola
Edward Fitzgerald is now up for Assange's legal team responding to the US appeal. He starts with emphasizing that Judge Baraitser's decision was carefully reasoned and followed a careful structure. She applied the test for assessing the risk of suicide.

.@maxajl & @FarmingPathogen write this brilliant piece critical of rewilding half of the world & ending animal agri & consumption—they argue that this intensifies exploitation of rural by the urban. So much food for thought here. newsocialist.org.uk/red-vega…

VT’s grad student senate, democratically decided to pass resolutions in support of Palestinian rights, and also justice for Black and working people. Throughout this process these student leaders have been constantly harassed by nonVT groups. VT admin must protect our students!
Any comment from @sgsdean or student affairs (@fshushok @gull2hokie @StudentsAtVT) on the baseless claims made towards y'all's students and the antisemitism and racism we've received as a result?

What a brilliant article by @rosendo_joe explaining how the western media vilified Venezuela and basically refused to even consider a popular govt which actually reduced poverty The poverty before Chavez sounds similar to Telangana's landlord-controlled rural areas before 1948,
