This day 175 years ago – 23 March 1847 – the Choctaw, a Native American nation, donated $170 to the Memphis Irish Relief Committee.
Their kindness is commemorated in a sculpture in Cork titled Kindred Spirits.
A scholarship for Choctaw students in Ireland was announced in 2018.
