Thx @guardian for inviting me to share these #LongCovid questions. One of the most agonizing parts of this condition has been waiting for the world to catch up with what we know about the disease - & the abysmal lack of urgency to do anything about it. /1 theguardian.com/world/commen…

Summer holidays - 14 yr old son out every day with friends & gym. 13 yr old #LongCovid daughter collapsed in heap in her bed, my bed or sofa, unable 2 do anything. Watching her summer go by in a haze of pain, fatigue, struggling to breath & numerous other LC symptoms. 1/2

The U.S. has seen over 1 million deaths due to #COVID19 & 1 in 5 infected develop #LongCOVID. At current *documented* case counts, the U.S. has ~18 million #Longhaulers. The @CDCgov 's own data estimates only 1 in 4 cases are actually documented. (4x as many w/ #LongCOVID). 3/7

In July, CDC says 8% of adults were reporting Long Covid symptoms, and studies have shown vaccination lowers risk by only ~15% But we continue to see protections rolled back and policy based strictly around vaccines & therapeutics ability to prevent death.
Spoke with @abc7newsbayarea yesterday about how the @CDCgov told me if I got infected I should bounce back in two weeks — but it’s been two years & still sick. We needed a warning then, but the lack of a #LongCovid warning now is Orwellian-like propaganda.

If I read 1 more article about #longcovid causing “lingering symptoms”. Or for “months”. How about causes debilitating incurable syndromes that disable you completely. And many who are 2+ yrs. I’m thankful for the awareness but they need to be more realistic to the devastation

Incredible and shocking findings. Researchers are on the cusp of identifying the key mechanisms behind long covid.
🚨 Absolutely stunning #LongCovid findings: "Compared with healthy controls, the capillary density of #LongCovid patients was decreased by 41%" "Our data strongly suggest that COVID leaves persistent capillary rarefication even 18 months after infection" link.springer.com/article/10…

Can someone please point me to the “sensible effort to consider public attitudes”? By which I mean any significant effort to actually measure and understand actual public attitudes rather than just speculating based on personal networks and casual observation.
New CDC Covid rules: to me, sensible effort to consider public attitudes, fact that Covid's here to stay, & need to focus on hi yield strategies. No quarantine for exposure, emphasis on "up to date" vax, & strategic masking all good. Still wish isolation exit was neg test or ~8d.

16.1% of all adults in #Ohio are experiencing #LongCovid right now. Stop wondering why stores have cut hours and there are so many job openings: Fatigue is the most common symptom of LC. Without preventative measures, this is only going to get worse.
The CDC estimates 8% of US adults are experiencing long COVID as of early July. 👀Here's the estimate of % of adults with long COVID by state. cdc.gov/nchs/covid19/pulse/l…

The fact that this study didn't include 3 of the most common #LongCovid symptoms - brain fog, post-exertional malaise, & sleep disorders - results in a severe underestimate (even though it still estimates 13% will get LC). Like measuring Parkinson's without asking about tremor.
NEW—Most reliable estimates to date suggest 1 in 8 COVID-19 patients develop #longCOVID symptoms. hubs.li/Q01jjK4x0

—“Don't act like that" —“You don't have anything" —“That doesn't exist" “It’s about time that the #LongCovid skeptics apologized properly.”- @karstenlucke, European Parliament 👏👏👏
„Tu’ mal nicht so“, „Du hast ja gar nichts“, „Das gibt es gar nicht“ - wird wohl Zeit, dass sich die #LongCovid Skeptiker mal gebührend entschuldigen.

On 8/11, the @CDCgov revised #COVID19 guidance as to “not disrupt daily life." These changes are reckless. 18M+ w/ #LongCOVID experience significant daily disruptions to life. This revision indicates those casualties are acceptable in exchange for comfort. #StoptheSpread 🧵 1/7

Can’t help but notice it’s been all quiet on the minimizing front. Even the worst offenders can’t keep it up in the face of the overwhelmingly evidence of #LongCovid pathology that was laid down this week.

The saddest part of all is when prominent public health figures like @DrLeanaWen @MonicaGandhi9 @VPrasadMDMPH @awgaffney have nothing to say about these bombshell #LongCovid studies—But rush to blast anything with an opportunity to minimize—they’re saying the quiet part out loud.
