Some professional news: I’m stepping away from the world of bullshit 💩 and into the world of actual manure. That’s right, I’m leaving day-to-day local #gapol politics reporting to become a market gardener 🥬, a thread:

Well friends, it's been fun, but it looks like @gapolbot will die next week. #gapol Twitter is no longer going to allow free automated access to the site. Not for Russian bots, not for third-party apps, not for researchers and not for public notice bots techcrunch.com/2023/02/01/tw…

Some Georgia senators want to permanently block schools and most government agencies from requiring people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Lawmakers put a one-year ban into law in 2022, but it expires June 30 if they don't act. gpb.org/news/2023/02/02/geor…

Here's one for the #gapol nerds: How to get an auto-generated transcript out of the vimeo videos that the georgia house publishes. 1. ur on some commmittee hearing page, there is the video, well click the VIMEO link down in the corner, to bring up this video in its own window

ok on firefox, go down to tools ->browser console. all browsers have this option somewhere, it'll be browser tools or developer tools or something. that'll make some window pop up in ur browser or beside it. you're now looking at the code that's running the page
1
1
go to the "network" tab. some files will be continually popping up. that's just the footprints of the video running
1
back up in the video, use the gear button to turn captions on that will cause a .vtt file to come up
1
click on that vtt file and another window will open, giving you details of what the browser requested and what it got. click on "response." There's your transcript. You can copy and paste it like any text. you can put it in word or google docs or whatever and search it.

this will look slightly different in different browsers but the process is the same, you're opening a little window into your internet traffic, you're triggering the sending of a vtt (transcript) file, and you're opening that transcript file. YOURE WELCOME

now u have all the tools you need to download all these transcripts and do a sentiment analysis of the legislature or let chatGPT learn from this corpus
No In fact this isn’t a kindergarten class it’s the georgia senate
After telling his colleagues he wasn't one for drama, @Vote_matt_brass has taken his predecessor's tradition of walk-up music up a notch and began the Rules Committee complete with a Top Gun-themed video and costume. #gapol

An Atl spokesperson offered an apology to our reporter. "We made every effort to accommodate all members of the media who were on site. There was no intent to exclude your reporter from the event, which was open to all members of the media."
