Reminder, now that Oath Keeper leader Stewart Rhodes and some of his Jan 6 buddies have been charged with seditious conspiracy: @motherjones was the first to profile him and his group, back in 2010: Yes, 2010. motherjones.com/politics/201…

Oath Keepers: -organized for weeks -planned to stop the transfer of power -planned guerrilla tactics and talked up bloody civil war -traveled to Washington heavily armed with guns -helped storm the Capitol Is that armed sedition? Or are you really sticking with 'half-pregnant'
Back in October, I looked into the January 6 defendants charged with any gun-related crime. There were five of them. Here they are. (This is accurate as of October 11.) washingtonexaminer.com/news/…

Regarding weapons charges: As we've been reporting for months @MotherJones, accumulating criminal evidence and testimony and comms records from law enforcement make clear that many more Trump extremists were armed with guns than the number of cases shows motherjones.com/politics/202…

This apologia for January 6 is truly remarkable. It was all just a harmless “fantasy” sedition plot, as @ByronYork sees it—a bunch of organized militia extremists just playing around amid vicious assaults on police officers, destruction in the Capitol Building, and several deaths
It was a LARP rebellion, a cosplay insurrection. At Capitol riot, Oath Keepers marched around in sorta-military gear, sent Signal messages to one another. Then they left. If they intended to overthrow the US government, they didn't really act like it. washingtonexaminer.com/opini…

I guess York thinks Stewart Rhodes was just having fun when he told fellow Oath Keepers “We aren’t getting through this without a civil war,” or that a Biden transition would be "a bloody and desperate fight" (funny, York doesn't mention that DOJ evidence) motherjones.com/politics/202…

Lots of stark new evidence with the first seditious conspiracy charges from January 6: Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes allegedly bought guns, shipped tactical gear, and talked up "civil war" and "a bloody and desperate fight" if Biden became president motherjones.com/politics/202…

All those heated political arguments about an apparent lack of sedition charges for January 6? ("See, it wasn't an insurrection!" or "Merrick Garland is failing!") Notably, my colleague @dfriedman33 long ago reported that the FBI appeared to be on the case motherjones.com/politics/202…

As we have also long been reporting, Oath Keepers were part of what was very much an ARMED insurrection on January 6, according to DOJ. Today's indictment adds yet more about the arsenal of guns they allegedly had. Much more on that "QRF" conspiracy here: motherjones.com/crime-justic…

Nat sec expert @juliettekayyem has long said that January 6 is a matter of counterterrorism and that bigger targets would take time. Today's indictment, as she notes, is significant on the road to reducing the violent far-right extremism unleashed by Trump motherjones.com/politics/202…
