"We don't want anyone's private health information, for example, to be leaked in ways that violate federal law" – @SecBecerra @HHSgov MUST go further than this. Federal law doesn't currently prevent healthcare workers from snitching on patients to police, but it could.

It is necessary for @SecBecerra and @HHSgov to act to update HIPAA's Privacy Rule to protect patients from the criminalization of basic reproductive functions.
In the wake of Dobbs, @SecBecerra should immediately begin the @HHSGov rulemaking process necessary to dramatically narrow the law enforcement exception to HIPAA's Privacy Rule. Healthcare providers should not be allowed to snitch on patients for, eg, a miscarriage.

He’s the former CA AG. “Top cop” isn’t going to prevent police from getting info they want. He will enable them just like he did LASD gangs. He does not work for the ppl.
