I think this whenever I travel in England. Trollope wondered 'whether many travellers, men who have pitched their tents perhaps under Mount Sinai, are not still ignorant that there are glories in Wiltshire, Dorsetshire, and Somersetshire. We beg that they will go and see.'
Whenever I visit an English city I find myself bowled over by its character and charm. It's amazing how lovely Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Newcastle, Liverpool all are, and how each has its own sense of place. Must do Leeds/Bradford next. A wonderful country!
