Wrote a quick thing about a mostly non-existent protest at Trump Tower and the cobb salad I ate at Beach Cafe. Everything was about what you'd expect—except the salad, which was surpisingly good. motherjones.com/mojo-wire/20…

Stunning: "More than one-third of all stores that opened in the United States in 2021 and 2022 were dollar stores. Dollar General alone opened 2,060 locations during those years, far more than any other retailer." nytimes.com/2023/03/01/busin…

NEW: George Santos’ old treasurer has lawyered up. And his new one just filed a bonkers report that, among other weird things, appears to have made more than $100,000 in debt simply vanish. Me @thedailybeast thedailybeast.com/new-george…

Just in: Santos' old treasurer has resigned. He does not have a treasurer, meaning he can't raise or spend money. He also has to file a campaign finance report ... today. docquery.fec.gov/pdf/882/202…

You've maybe heard of Kiwi Farms, one of the most destructive sites online, but what exactly was it? I spent years talking to victims and their friends and family, investigating how it destroyed people's lives and why it's still not dead yet motherjones.com/politics/202…

“Maybe some of these disbursements didn’t happen at all,” said @SGhoshCLC “It begs the question, ‘Well, how did they spend their money?’”
NEW: George Santos reported meals at a Miami Beach diner. The diner found no record of them. He reported parking at a Miami Beach lot. The city says the dollar amounts would be impossible. Retracing Santos’ steps in South Florida: miamiherald.com/news/politic…

Last week, we found more than a dozen 2020 Santos donors whose identities could not be confirmed. Many were listed at addresses that don't exist. For 2022, the Santos campaign reported receiving nearly $80,000 from relatives of Santos and treasurer Nancy Marks.

One of the Santos relatives told me yesterday that they had no idea that the Santos campaign reported them as giving $5,800—the legal maximum. "I’m dumbfounded," the person said. They added, "“I don’t have that money to throw around!”

It is illegal to donate using a fake name or the name of another person. “It’s called a contribution in the name of another,” @SGhoshCLC explained last week. “It’s something that is explicitly prohibited under federal law.”

One of the 2020 donors listed at an address they don't live at was named Stephen Berger. In 2022, a Stephen Burger donated $21,600 to various Santos groups on the same day. We are still trying to find that Stephen as well.

Beyond non-existent addresses and names, we also found at least one case of an FEC filing containing information that only Santos—and potentially those close to him—would likely have known.
