This is why arguments against a windfall tax don’t wash. Windfall profits being used more for dividends and share buy backs than investment.

Hard to believe it is five years since Tessa Jowell’s last beautiful and powerful speech. She is still much loved by those fortunate enough to know her.
“In the end, what gives a life meaning, is not only how it is lived - but how it draws to a close” Tessa’s life drew to a close the way she’d always lived - with the courage to stand up for others This was her final public speech - 5yrs ago today. She’s v.much missed & loved

The Minister’s argument on Wagner amounts to a blank cheque for legal actions designed to silence or bankrupt - known as SLAPPs. Is this really the Government’s position? Huge implications for free speech and investigative journalism.

It is deeply troubling that one of Putin’s allies used the Treasury to attempt to subvert sanctions and silence a journalist. @patmcfaddenmp is right: it is completely unacceptable and the Chancellor must urgently explain how it was allowed to happen. theguardian.com/world/2023/j…

“They’re all the same” is what the Tories want people to conclude. But politics and democracy can still achieve great things and make great change. And that’s the job in front of us.

This is the Tory hope, certainly Boris Johnson’s: that people think all politicians are the same so no scandal ever matters.
Good point from @patmcfaddenmp on @BBCRadio4 Broadcasting House - the cynicism at the top of the Tory party is so deep and embedded they are relaxed about how all this looks - "they're all the same" etc. Suits them fine.
