US State Department okays $5 million dollar gun sale to Mexican special forces units accused of "orchestrating a wave of disappearances and murders in a case that has drawn international attention and condemnation." from @rdevro for @theintercept
"The militarization of Mexico that Mérida came to symbolize, and the abuses that have come with it, is arguably better reflected in the lucrative private arming of problematic security forces…" theintercept.com/2021/10/06/… via @rdevro @theintercept

Personally witnessed police doing the same thing from armored vehicles seven years ago in Ferguson. At one point their rounds started a small fire in a random home owner’s driveway.
These are Minneapolis cops firing 40mm marking rounds at random civilians from an unmarked van during the George Floyd unrest. They hit 29-year-old Jaleel Stallings, who returns fire from his legally-carried pistol, then surrenders immediately. Then they run out and assault him.

"The CIA prioritized the evacuation of Zero unit members...flying out as many as 7,000 of the former commandos and their relatives even as thousands of vulnerable former U.S. government and military employees, human rights activists, and aid workers were left behind."
Most coverage of the CIA’s efforts in the evacuation from Kabul has been laudatory. But the units who helped, & are being resettled in the US, were known for extrajudicial executions & massacres of children. w/ ⁦@matthewacole⁩ ⁦@theintercepttheintercept.com/2021/10/05/…

Excellent on the ground reporting from one of Arizona’s best.
To see how Title 42 works at the border @CDCDirector should read my piece on how a family seeking asylum were denied access to the Nogales port, even when they had a recent negative COVID test. tucsonsentinel.com/local/rep…

.@jacobsoboroff reporting on the expulsions from Port-au-Prince: "There are definitely women and children here — what appear to be families."
Replying to @jacobsoboroff
We’re seeing families in addition to single adults being expelled to Haiti from the U.S. — as just happened live on air.

Bits of Hale's sentencing statement were quoted in the press at the time but the full statement, like his letter, is profoundly moving and worth reading in its entirety — @TeamDanielHale is tweeting each page of the hand-written document in the thread above.

The goal is to raise money to offset the staggering costs that come with a multi-year federal persecution and prosecution, provide care for Hale's beloved cat, and help set Hale up for a life post-incarceration. More info about the initiative here: gofundme.com/f/support-whist…
