“Most of our EU neighbours who are doing much better economically than we are, are paying much higher taxes than we do…” says expert. This is, of course, at the heart of the matter. But it is far too controversial a point for the BBC’s #wato, which moves swiftly on.

If you pay >10% of income on household energy, you are in fuel poverty If typical energy bills rise to £4,500 in January, that means anyone on a gross salary of £65,000 or below could be in fuel poverty Over 90% of all UK full time employees earn under £65k #bbcwato #wato

Then the same energy expert points out that France is in a stronger position to deal with the crisis than we are because France owns its energy company. No discussion of that crucial point either. #wato

It is becoming pretty clear that #wato, #r4today, #bbcpm et al have been instructed not to discuss fundamental political points because they are too political. Bit odd for programmes that purport to be about politics.

The current incarnation of the Tory party has kept it's stranglehold on power precisely by offering simple solutions to complex problems, however ludicrous. I sort of don't blame Truss for grasping at a winning strategy. I blame those who choose not to see through it. #wato

@bbcnews has no corporate memory. It assumes that every time it tells us something it has to treat us as if we know nothing. See the polio story: the virus was discovered in sewers in June, but today's vaccine story makes no connection with that. bbc.co.uk/news/health-618964… #wato

Why would we assume that polio has gone away? @bbcnews and all the other networks were telling us about polio in the sewers just a few weeks ago. Do you assume that our memories are as bad as the @bbcnews corporate memory? #wato
