In today's 🦀 news, Taiwanese researchers find endemic fiddler crab species at risk of extinction — thanks to habitat destruction by human activity and competition by invasive species, two main drivers of our planet's #biodiversity loss.
Taiwan’s west coast and the Penghu Islands beyond are home to a special species of fiddler crab known for building chimney-like structures from mud after breeding. But that may not be the case for long, if a new survey of their numbers is correct.

RT. UPDATE At the moment we are taking legal advice. Our only option is the Supreme Court and for that we must continue to fundraise to cover our costs which are high. See how you can help us raise the necessary funds here savethehellfire.com/how-you-… #biodiversity #sustainable

#Nuclear takes up much less land, uses less materials (and mining) than wind, solar, batteries. It has a smaller environmental footprint and less effect on #biodiversity than eg. wind and solar + backup. Nuclear is 1 of our safest #energy source. 10/n

Did you know #elephants help maintain the #biodiversity of the #ecosystems they inhabit? The footprint shaped holes they leave behind enables a micro-system so that when it rains, it collects the rainwater & provides a small home for tadpoles & other organisms. #ElephantFamily

#biodiversity Planting berry-bearing shrubs & trees will help birds get through winter. Hawthorn can be a lovely specimen tree or hedge, second only to oak for importance to wildlife. We have many types of hawthorn here, they are easy to grow This is the ideal time to plant 🐞🐝
