📢Tech workers thinking about end of year donations: Signal is eligible for most employer matching programs! What could be more poetic than redirecting that surveillance tech money to support meaningful privacy?

Whatever the future of Twitter DMs, I'll continue to use Signal + admonish others to do the same. Signal is a 501c3, open source, + structured w privacy as its core mission. At an org level its WAY less susceptible to the whims of leadership, or the pressures of profit & growth

Signal is supported by your donations. Not ad money, not investors. Privacy is central to everything we do, and of course this includes accepting donations. 1/

You can make in-app donations to Signal using Apple Pay or Google Pay and choose to display a badge showing your support. We receive the donation (thank you!) but–this is important–we never connect your donation info with your Signal account. Here’s how it works: 2/

Usually, apps that accept donations or payments link your profile information with the personal info you provide when making a payment, like your address and bank info. Signal works differently. 3/

Signal uses an anonymous credential scheme including blinding, zero knowledge proofs, & more to ensure we’re not connecting your donation information with your Signal account. And we don’t store any of the information you send to payment processors. 4/

If you donate $10/month to Signal, we know that you've donated & we know that a particular Signal account should get a badge as proof of support. BUT we built our in-app donation flow so we can never connect the specifics of your donation (& identity) to your Signal account. 5/
