when the speakers for this weekend's american renaissance conference were announced earlier this year, the face of one speaker, who is appearing under a pseudonym, was obscured. that's because he had not yet actually retired from the boise police department at that time.

🧵 People in Puerto Rico are protesting an illegal construction on protected public land. One of the private security hired by the owners fired at protesters. Who do you think PRPD are harassing & arresting? Yep, the protesters being shot while protecting public land. /1
[AHORA] Protesta en The Cliff en Aguadilla se torna violenta; al menos un oficial guardia privado tira ráfaga de disparos contra multitud y hiere al menos a un manifestante. Video: Jose Luis de “Prensa Comunitaria”.

I can’t understand how anyone can think that abolition is the naïve position. Is it not naïve to think you can reform institution that is inherently oppressive and violent? When does police reform become futile for reformers?

The government does not get to define “safe spaces”. They do not get to define when, where, or how we protest. If they truly understood, they’d understand that IT IS THEM THAT WE ARE PROTESTING AGAINST, and these attempts to gaslight us are not resolutions.
We understand. The City of Richmond is providing safe spaces for gathering throughout today, Saturday, January 28th, from 9 AM to 4 PM. #WeAreRVA #BuildingCommunity

no, i love only being able to send a reply by first attempting to post it, getting an error message, going to my drafts folder, opening the draft, and then sending it. it’s good to me.

some residents in charlottesville woke up to antisemitic flyers in their lawn this morning. these flyers are made by a group called the goyim defense league headed by notorious antisemite jon minadeo. put them straight in the trash.

the flyers are distributed through online platforms & the group encourages people to print & place them where they live, but based on the fact that the same man was arrested in both rhode island & florida, there aren’t a lot of people actually doing that wpri.com/news/local-news/nor…

i think what is most striking about the body cam videos is how much of the footage is not of the overt acts of physical violence. it’s minutes & minutes of murderer b-roll. standing around collaboratively shaping their narrative & bonding over the experience they shared.

and i suspect this isn’t unique. when we get footage of police violence, it’s truncated & edited. it ends when the gun goes off. they own the evidence of their misconduct & we get what they let us have. how often do we get to see the murderers get their story straight?

but this time they let us see them make threats, celebrate, & swap stories. why? is this some perverse attempt to make these cops, already fired & arrested, look uniquely bad, showing us that “the system works” and the bad apples were tossed out?

the statements police make, the evidence they offer up - it’s a curated display, carefully crafted by cops & lawyers & crisis PR teams. this kind of footage exists in other cases, i’d bet my life on it. but they wanted us to see this and notice how uniquely awful these cops were.

the coordinated flurry of press releases from police departments across the country condemning this kinda makes you wonder if cops saw this video, thought back to 2020, and they’re doing whatever they can to keep the orchard from getting torched.
police departments will never excise the rot on their own, which is why they violently resist even the most lukewarm requests for transparency - they know if we saw how many of the apples were bad, we’d torch the orchard.
