I cannot stand the pro gun left. Just a series of the worst possible arguments imaginable delivered with the least possible regard for the facts. Functionally indistinguishable from the "we need more cops to deal with โœจ crimeโœจ because crime makes me unsafe" brigade

Legit wondering if in future decades we'll be writing about an "upper income trap," wherein wealthy economies stop growing due to increased red tape, cost disease, social unrest from a highly educated populace, rent seeking, and anti-industrial sentiment.

wait, has anyone actually read this paper? the claims being made on twitter (that this shows that nafta led white, uneducated voters to swing for republicans) are technically evidenced by the paper, & the paper itself is neat, sure. but i'm not sure it's actually good evidence
NAFTA (signed by Bill Clinton) led to large job losses in historically low-income US counties which historically voted Democratic but began to move toward the GOP after NAFTA, from Jiwon Choi, @ikuziemko, Ebonya L. Washington, and Gavin Wright nber.org/papers/w29525

i'm really not convinced that the paper is doing much to disentangle the effects of nafta from the other industry trends at the time

I wish Apple published detailed low level optimization guides for M1 as well as low level profiling tools because some aspects of performance just leave me dumbfounded. At this point I feel like I can understand, if not predict, x64 performance, but M1 in certain cases eludes me.

Lmao one of the best observations the great @DrewSav often makes is the lengths Romney would go to in order to seem relatable to working class voters while Trump would show up on his private jet to rallies and proceed to get numbers never before seen with that group.

I was told a dental service would be $300 before they ran it by my insurance. I'm looking at my claim history and these people charged my insurance company $613. Medical providers (dentists especially) are criminals I swear

My health insurance company made it impossible to download any documentation regarding coverage. To access coverage information now, you have to call them. Lines close at 4:30 PM. The information is inaccessible in the app and on the website. I even tried different browsers.

Say you put a high-end solar cell on the upper bezel of this Kindle Paperwhite. On a sunny day, how long would it take to charge a capacitor, such that that capacitor can deliver ~50 mW? How about indoors? I'm just looking for any rough guesses. (Seconds? Minutes? Hours?)
