Some of these banned 11 books are still accessible in school libraries in Leander; but Machado's 'In the Dream House' and Hutchinson's 'Brave Face' are not in the library collections, so they're effectively inaccessible in the district now. docs.google.com/document/d/1…

Here’s the list of books now banned from classroom libraries at Leander ISD, a suburban district outside Austin. The physical purge began Monday.
After a year of "review" Leander ISD in Texas has now banned 11 books from its optional book club reading lists -- and will be proceeding to ensure no student has access to them in classroom libraries. A profound shame. #FReadom

Book banning has become a regular event in America, the "anti-cancel-culture" creeps who made it happen are silent, and no one seems to notice.

in short, weight loss is like crypto: a way for the extremely wealthy to manipulate and extract resources from the less wealthy, promising them mobility but ultimately leaving them more exhausted than before

It’s a pretty simple question: does the House accept violent Islamophobia or not? We should feel ashamed every time @IlhanMN or anyone is forced to defend themselves against threats in their workplace alone bc the institutions they serve in won’t protect them. It’s messed up.

It’s embarrassing that there is any hesitation on this. How can we have different consequences for different kinds of bigotry or incitement? This should be treated equally and consistently. Incite against a member and you’re stripped. End of story. She refuses to even apologize.
AOC told me she’s disappointed in D leaders for not punishing Boebert "I think this should be pretty simple: that we should have the same standards for everybody. The less consistently we treat these issues, the more it encourages people to try to see what they can get away with”

It boggles the mind that @CBCNews provides it's platform for opeds like this given the realities we've already faced (and are looking more and more likely to be facing again) with this pandemic.

So… a teen took the drug, wrapped it in paper, shoved in a vape pen, carried it around, was totally fine. Four adults are briefly MAYBE exposed to it, via method that would not cause an overdose, and then claimed overdose symptoms and were treated for such.

And local news took the story straight from a police press release and published it with nearly zero independent research and no critical thinking.

In other words, two cops had panic attacks when they realized they might have touched a fentanyl variant, because the law enforcement community has been mainlining propaganda treating it like an environmental hazard for the last few years

This is obviously a lie, but let’s just parse it out: a teen was straight up vaping fentanyl and is totally fine but a minor contact exposure of a chemical that does not absorb through the skin put multiple adults in danger?

β€œNew redistricting maps” here is code for gerrymanders. Less competitiveness means that politicians are choosing their voters and dodging accountability. Passing the #FreedomToVoteAct and supporting IRCs across the country could help put a stop to this. abcnews.go.com/Politics/comp…

"One Decade. One Year. One Month." Ok. Here it is. A couple weeks ago I sat down and started writing about my path to sobriety. I've talked about it on social media before, but this is the first time I've tried to write it all in one place. 1/ jamespmcleod.medium.com/one-…

I’m thinking leg two of the #1619Project needs to be the β€œbanned book” tour, where I go to all the states that have banned the teaching of this work! What do y’all think?
