Spending $800 an hour to fly the helicopter to tell kids to get out of the pool because we don’t have money for lifeguards just sums up America perfectly.
“This is the Baltimore City Police Dept. helicopter unit. Please exit the swimming pool. There is no lifeguard on duty. For your safety, exit the swimming pool.”

A Bell 407 costs about $3000 per flight hour to operate, or 120 lifeguards paid $25 / hour.

I guess the '''reasonable''' answer is they were already flying in the area, but that just leaves more questions Do they just decide to take random patrols in a fuckin helicopter? "Bob you got your pilots license, let's go fuck around in the heli"

Some friends of mine were once detained by police (for something innocuous and stupid), and one of them scolded them about how they *MADE* police pull out their helicopter. A year after that incident they called for a noise complaint, and the cops responded with their helicopter.
