The bullet that killed Shireen Abu Akleh came from the approx. position of an Israel military vehicle — most likely fired by a soldier from an elite unit. It was one of 16 bullets fired into the direction of 5 clearly marked journalists. Our investigation: nytimes.com/2022/06/20/world…
Basic information about many historic photographs is often lacking or non-existent. But as @foekepostma writes, a myriad of online tools and research methods can help identify the location, period, and potentially even the photographer.

So apparently now Bellingcat has managed to infiltrate Russia's nuclear programme and is sabotaging both Russian and Chinese nuclear weapons. I am enjoying this new level of Bellingcat fan fiction.
I spoke to Enas Taleb, one of Iraq's most beloved actresses, about The Economist using a picture of hers to illustrate Arab “fat women.” She's taking the British paper to court.

Former President Donald J. Trump said on Monday that the F.B.I. had searched his Palm Beach, Fla., home and had broken open a safe — an account that, if accurate, would be a dramatic escalation in the various investigations into the former president. nytimes.com/live/2022/08/08/…
Scoop — The Federal Bureau of Investigation @FBI today executed a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago, two sources confirm to @Fla_Pol.
"They just left," one source said.
Not sure what the search warrant was about.
TBH, Im not a strong enough reporter to hunt this down, but its real.
The @nytimes ran our story on forced resettlement of Ukrainians to Russia in the print edition today. Just look at the insane journey one of the refugees we interviewed had to take 8 time zones east and then all the way back across Russia to escape to Estonia.
Thought this was an impressive geolocation. Starting knowledge is that it's somewhere in or around New York. What do you see? A key clue was the lighthouse visible in the distance.
This @quiztime mega #ThursdayQuiz has been solved! Great to see so many involved that were (literally) connecting the dots. It's a big ❤️ through all of the five boroughs (Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx) of this wonderful city.
Now all photos are localized (thanks especially to @Tanya_Kyiv for the last ones)!
And so I think: It is a heart – @trbrtc ♥️ NYC.
What a great declaration of love to a city!
A thread compiling geolocations / analysis of strikes in Gaza, as it may help human rights organizations for further research on civilian casualties. I will add a few of myself and others to create a map later on. Feel free to add information or cooperate. 🧵
U.N. experts say that Malian Armed Forces allegedly carried out an operation with “white-skinned soldiers” [note: likely Russian mercenaries] in Robinet El Ataye, near the border with Mauritania, shooting and burning at least 33 civilians on March 5. apnews.com/article/russia-uk…
We investigated a similar case in a different part of mali and found that government soldiers accompanied by Russian mercenaries executed hundreds of men in Moura on March 27. nytimes.com/2022/05/31/world…
Today's my first as a staff writer for environmental investigations @grist. Send tips, ideas, or just say hello! I'm so psyched to work with this team that I admire so much.
And now we've added a third new `youtube-dl` extractor. This one for Parler.

OSINT people, what other newsmaking social media sites do you download video from?
A masterclass in reporting on the Amazon from @hyurypotter@JessicaVBrice@jumoriana@thiagomedaglia@gufalei — clandestine airstrips, Big Beef, the impact of fires on health during the pandemic, burning and deforestation. Journalism to be jealous of (in the best way!).
Legendary Brazilian journalist @zerotoledo interviewing @heytherehaley at @abraji about January 6th coverage. The backbone of #OSINT investigations: collaboration, timelines and traditional reporting.
O painel mais inspirador até agora no #17CongressoAbraji. RT se você concorda.
