"The lack of a name, the lack of this transparency, doesn’t help. But if she says there are legal reasons, that, for now, is the best I can get out of her."

"I was watching for any body language and eye movement that would seem like she’s conjuring up a fiction. I had made a plan to ask her the same questions repeatedly over the next few days to see if any of her details didn’t match." This is solid detective strategy

"I asked again for names, but she refused. We get into this specific discussion later, but I wanted to establish her side of what happened in LA first."

"One must work with the primary source first and then unspool what you can from there. I can’t reverse engineer it. People refuse to understand this!!

"This was all her account—she could be totally lying. It could be all true. Either way, the story makes me feel sick. If it’s a lie, I’m sick that someone would go this far to tell such a warped lie. And I’m sick that if it is true, I’m just asking her to relive some dark trauma.

"I’ve literally told everyone from day one that I wanted to be famous. My parents knew that when I was a little girl."

"As she dropped me off at her parent’s house, we got confirmation that this address had been doxed. I thought this would be a crazy place in the middle of nowhere to show up unannounced and hostile."

I read the entire thing. Shane is a phenomenal story teller. He basically hit on points I've been saying this entire time. "I try not to peddle in knee-jerk reactions. ... I do not perform for trends, nor do I perform for the insatiable."

I don't support or denounce her because I don't know the whole story. Everyone deserves grace. I reject mob mentality. If she's lying then so be it. Let her hang herself with her own words. If she's telling the truth then I never risked my reputation dragging her.

I do support Shane as a colleague. Not once in the entire piece did he tell anyone what to believe. He lays out Eliza's timeline in her own words and acknowledges she could be lying. I don't think you can be more transparent or unbiased than that.
