I do believe the official BA.5 death toll in the US is an undercount. Anyway, terminology: covid leading to death is critical/fatal covid. Severe covid can start mildly and results in hospitalization, prolonged disease, disability, and even death down the line
The U.S. has reported 6.8K COVID deaths this month (NYT numbers).
That translates to more Americans dying per week than died in the 9/11 terror attacks.
This is the new normal, America's political leaders insist.
If I read 1 more article about #longcovid causing “lingering symptoms”. Or for “months”. How about causes debilitating incurable syndromes that disable you completely. And many who are 2+ yrs. I’m thankful for the awareness but they need to be more realistic to the devastation
APOLOGY NEEDED—I think @ReutersFacts owes everyone a big APOLOGY for posting a dubious “fact check” claiming that the CDC has never said #monkeypox is airborne whenever countless @CDCgov documents say airborne precautions needed. Shameful.

I am not tweeting this for sympathy. My sister, healthy, vibrant, young passed away from Covid complications this morning. She, along with so many others decided masking was no longer needed. Passed away from the virus most people think is gone or never existed. Please stay safe.
Why are people age 50+ at higher risk of severe Covid?
A new @PNASNews study indicates their significant narrowing of T cell diversity in response to infections may be part of the explanation
NEW VIRUS FOUND IN CHINA: 35 already infected: nearly 1 in 2 get liver failure: 1 in 12 get kidney failure: virus goes into multiple animals and is believed to have emerged from shrews and it may be 'potentially fatal' case fatality for similar viruses 'very high'
