Sickle cell disease is the fastest growing genetic disorder in the UK and we need more Black blood donors, who are more likely to have the blood type which is vital to treatment.
I urge anyone eligible to #GiveBlood to save and improve more lives.
A record 250 donations are now needed every day to treat people with sickle cell.
We’re urgently calling for more donors of Black heritage to come forward as ethnically matched blood provides the best treatment.

Here's my Colchester constituency casework infographic for last week setting out new cases opened on behalf of constituents and the broad issues raised. If you are a constituent and need my help with any issue please get in touch.
It was great to speak to Colchester Sixth Form College politics students about my role as Colchester's Member of Parliament and have the opportunity to answer some of their very insightful and detailed questions. Some future politicians in the making perhaps!
A very insightful visit to @Coram Children’s Legal Centre in Colchester. It was brilliant to learn about the work the team does locally to support people across the country. I also had the opportunity to speak to some of the young people they have been supporting.
A really good meeting with @CAFOD (the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) and pupils at St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School at St Teresa’s parish hall, Colchester for a Q&A and discussion on domestic and international environmental issues.
Cervical screening saves lives – but a third don’t take up the offer.

Last visit of the day to the Swindon Integrated Care Alliance Coordination Centre to see how patients needs are met quicker.
Centres like this bring together staff from across the whole health and care system, removing boundaries so patients access faster care when they need it.
This afternoon I met the team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children @uhbwNHS to learn about the experiences of children living with rare diseases.
It was a pleasure to speak to the staff and carers who are providing support to children with some of the rarest diseases.
It’s #organdonationweek so I visited @NHSBT in Filton to learn about their lifesaving work. The team works to ensure a safe supply of blood & organ donation that saves and improves lives. You can do your bit by giving blood and telling your loved ones your views on organ donation
This evening I visited @HorfieldHC to meet GPs and the Practice Manager to learn more about how they run personal lists and provide continuity of care to their patients.
I’m grateful to GPs and their teams across our country for the work they do supporting their communities.
I’ve just met the team at Gompels Pharmacy in Melksham, Wiltshire to see the family-run pharmacy in action.
It gave me an opportunity to discuss Our Plan for Patients and how pharmacists are playing a bigger role in providing care for patients and freeing up GP appointments.
This afternoon I headed to Baldev’s Dental Practice in Newbury to meet the principal dentist Vishnu Mistry & his team alongside local MP @Laura__Farris
It was great to hear about the challenges and opportunities facing NHS dentistry and how we can improve access across England.
Visits like this are valuable and I am very grateful to @GreatOrmondSt for accommodating me and the team today. You can learn about issues, challenges and opportunities by reading submissions at @DHSCgovuk but there is nothing like speaking with clinicians, patients and carers.
