On #MLKDay it was fitting to be @WHO with @DrTedros and so many in the forefront of delivery of health care to the most underserved around the world. Standing in solidarity for #VaccinEquity & health justice as we #AcTogether in a bid to end the acute phase of this pandemic.

Pleased to meet in person with Dr. @yodifiji, @WHO's Special Envoy for @ACTAccelerator, who has joined current envoy @carlbildt in the role. We had a productive discussion on her engagement on the #ACTogether advocacy & mobilizing support for equitable access to life-saving tools

Because it’s a co-chair function. And because the world doesn’t look the same nor is it equitable - so one is a Caucasian male from the global north and the other a black female from the global south. Representation - so that all voices are heard. Hope this helps.

This is absurd. What does he mean there are significant issues with “complacency” in Africa?! Do they understand what the word complacent means. Media colleagues please we need to educate our less enlightened colleagues! Let them not add insult to injury.

This 👇🏾 Now figure in the fact that even those with privilege who CAN access a vaccine in LMICs are now likely to be excluded from certain travel, restaurants and entertainment venues because the goalposts have shifted! 3 doses & QR codes. Inequality excludes, inequality kills.
Replying to @NabsIMA
nitter.fdn.fr/Oxfam/status/148… This year's @Oxfam paper makes the case that more than create unhappy and unfair societies, inequality kills. We put a figure on it. Inequality contributes to one death every four seconds. A conservative estimate. Full report: oxfamilibrary.openrepository…

Not only have we not yet managed to get close to #VaccinEquity but the goalposts have moved. The definition of what it means to be “fully vaxxed” has subtly shifted to 3 doses & now in many HICs QR codes are a requirement to participate in what we consider ‘normal’ activities.

In this difficult time for the people of #Tonga, I’d like to remind us all of this beautiful song of 🇹🇴 Nurse Choir and their touching spirit of solidarity. They need our solidarity more than ever!
Pleased to give #Tonga Health Minister Amelia Afuha’amango Tu’ipulotu & 🇹🇴 Nurse Choir the @WHO Director-General Award - they lifted our spirits & touched our hearts with today's performance at #WHA73, to mark the Year of the Nurse & the Midwife.

8) don’t trust the #mild propaganda.
“Mild” but hospitals overloaded. “Mild” but healthcare workers burnt out. “Mild” but thousands of flights cancelled. “Mild” but no booster shots for kids in under-ventilated schools. “Mild” brain damage. “Mild” collapse of society. …“Mild” my ass. #COVID19 #Omicron #LongCovid

Earlier this week I visited the hub in Cape Town and sat down with Petro Terblanche, managing director of Afrigen, the developer behind the hub. More to come soon but here's a picture of the facility. The box with the little stripes is where the vaccine formulation was produced!

A week ago, the world’s first mRNA vaccine tech transfer hub had reason to celebrate. It had produced the drug formulation for a COVID-19 vaccine based on Moderna's jab. All without help from Big Pharma. This week's Global Pulse has the details: politico.com/newsletters/glo…

#COVAX was formulated as the solution for equitable vaccine distribution globally. We have to work hard in the coming months to vaccinate populations everywhere

#COVAX just delivered its 1 billionth #COVID19 vaccine dose. We’re grateful to all our partners and donors for their support and contributions. However, the work is not done. We must ramp up #VaccinEquity efforts and vaccinate 70% of people in ALL countries by mid-2022.
